HEIC, animated WebP input, PNG sequences and frame sequence export require Pro.

Editors, compositors, sprite tools and training pipelines all want the same thing from a video: the individual frames, as images, in order. Upload an MP4, MOV or WebM, choose the part of the clip you need and how many frames per second to pull, and LightBox extracts them with FFmpeg on our server and hands them back as a single zip.

You decide what comes out. Frames can be PNG — pixel-exact, with transparency preserved from formats that carry it — or WebP, if you want a lighter sequence to hand straight to a web pipeline. The frame rate is a row of presets (every frame, or a fixed 1, 2, 5, 10, 12, 15, 24 or 30 fps) with a custom value if you need one, and the in and out points can be dragged on the trim slider or typed as timecodes. Each file is numbered after your source — clip_0001.png, clip_0002.png, and so on — so it imports in order into anything that reads an image sequence.

One export holds up to 3,000 frames, which is the ceiling on the frame rate and window you can combine. Frame sequence export is a Pro feature: a one-time upgrade that also unlocks bigger uploads, batch conversion, saved presets and a permanent library where your results are kept instead of being deleted.

Why convert with LightBox

Numbered frames that import in order

Every frame is written as clip_0001.png, clip_0002.png — four digits, starting at one, named after the file you uploaded. That is the naming convention After Effects, Blender, DaVinci Resolve and ffmpeg all recognise, so the sequence drops in as a sequence rather than a pile of loose stills.

PNG or WebP, your choice

Pick PNG when you are taking the frames into an editor and want them untouched, including transparency from a WebM with an alpha channel. Pick WebP when the sequence is headed for the web and the size of the zip matters more than pixel-exactness.

Take only the part you need

Set the start and end points on the trim slider or type them in directly, then choose a frame rate — every frame for the source rate, or a fixed rate to thin the sequence out. Four seconds at 5 fps is twenty images instead of hundreds.

Frequently asked questions

A single zip containing the extracted frames, numbered in order and named after your source file. LightBox builds the archive once when the conversion ends, so the download starts immediately, and you can preview individual frames on the result screen before you download.

PNG is the safe default: it is lossless, keeps transparency, and every editing tool reads it. WebP produces a noticeably smaller zip and is the better pick when the frames are going onto a website or into a sprite sheet rather than into a timeline.

It extracts at the video's own frame rate rather than resampling — a 60 fps clip gives you 60 images per second. It is the option to use when the frames have to line up exactly with the original timing, and it is still subject to the 3,000-frame limit per export.

Up to 3,000. The count is your selected window multiplied by the frame rate, so a long clip at a high rate will exceed it — shorten the window, lower the frame rate, or split the video into a couple of exports. LightBox shows the projected count before you convert.

Yes. Drag the two trim handles, or type the in and out timecodes if you already know them from your editor. Only the frames inside that window are extracted, and numbering starts at 0001 from the in point.

No — it is a Pro feature, because a single export can produce thousands of files and a large archive. A one-time Pro upgrade unlocks it along with uploads up to 1 GB, unlimited conversions, batch processing, saved presets and a permanent library.
